Safety is a high priority for Springfield Public Schools. Some of the first projects to get underway are those that will improve student and staff safety.
More than 850 door lock sets were ordered to replace each classroom door lock that does not lock from the inside. Upgrading door locks ensures that staff have the option to secure students inside classrooms in the event of an emergency.
Lock replacement is complete at all schools with the exception of a few specialty doors at Thurston High School that are in process.
After the door lock replacement is complete, the District will begin the systematic replacement of perimeter gates that do not currently allow for emergency evacuation.
