In August 2012, Chalkboard launched TeachOregon with design grants to school district and university partnerships. TeachOregon school districts, community colleges, and university partners collaborate to develop teacher preparation programs to prepare a more diverse and effective teacher workforce to meet the challenges currently facing Oregon's schools. These partnerships prioritize the following:
  • Recruitment of more teacher candidates from historically underrepresented groups to support a teaching force that reflects the diversity of the student population.
  • Expanded clinical experiences of 30+ weeks that include a quality classroom practice experience.
  • New models for assessment of teacher candidate performance including impact on student achievement.
  • New compensation and scholarship models to recruit, reward, and support teacher candidates, cooperating teachers, and university supervisors.
  • Expanded career opportunities and roles for clinical teachers, mentor teachers, and university faculty.
  • Data collection on teacher growth, effectiveness, and retention.
