Music Teachers Visit Makey Makey Fair
Youth Services Librarian LuCinda Gustavson hosted a Makey Makey Fair for Springfield music teachers on Friday's early release day. Teachers were able to experiment with, and share lesson plans ideas around, Makey Makey, an invention kit that allows kids to create interactive games and keyboards with simple circuitry.
Any material that can conduct at least a tiny bit of electricity will work. Teacher-kids experimented with hooking up play-dough, bananas and flowers to a Makey Makey circuit board, then using them to transmit keystrokes to a laptop, in this case, to play music.
The kit is one of several that the library was able to purchase using grant funds that are available for teachers to check out for classroom use.
