SPS Students Excel at District Solo and Ensemble Festival

Congratulations to our Springfield vocalists and musicians who excelled at the recent OMEA District 12 Solo and Ensemble Festival at LCC. Several students qualified to go on to the state competition on April 28.

At Springfield High, several students qualified for state: Tia Diozeghy: 1st, Mezzo Soprano Voice; Trenton Fleenor: 1st, Tuba; Chandler Larsen: 1st, Rudimental Snare Drum, Orchestral Snare Drum, Timpani and Mallets; Chandler Larsen and Justin Sheetz: 1st, percussion duet.

Payton Swartout and Hannah Baehler were the high scoring woodwind small ensemble and barely missed qualifying for state. Hannah Baeher also took 3rd in Clarinet.

Thurston High had 32 entrants into the contest, more than any other school. Several students qualified for state: Wesley Coleman: 1st, Alto Saxophone; Bailie Hampton: 1st, Horn; Ben Aldana: 1st, Trombone; Donald Inglese: 1st, Timpani; Sean Gley: 2nd, Trumpet; Jamison McGillivray: 2nd, Trombone. Other placers were Sabrina Stroup: 2nd, Mezzo Voice; Logan Pearl: 2nd, Rudamental Snare; David Bartzen: 3rd, Trombone; Donald Inglese: 3rd, Mallets and Orchestral Snare; Grant Gramespacher: 4th, Trumpet.

The percussion ensemble also won the large percussion category and will compete at state. They also took second in the small ensemble category and qualified for a spot at state as well. The trombone quartet won the brass ensemble category.
